The History of the Bow Tie

Bow ties originated from the era of the Prussian wars of the 17th century. The were originally created to hold together the opening of the shirts of men and were soon adapted as a bourgeois accessory by the upper class in France, who was always a leader in high fashion. Bow ties were originally created at custom sizes for individuals, but adjustable one-size-fits-all sizes were a later invention directed at lowering production costs.
